The Rose

My sister said I was there for it, but I don't remember. My mom sang this song at the Dixie theater in Ruston when we were little. I love the words, and she can sing it magnificently.

Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless, aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, it's only seed

It's the heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It's the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance

It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong

Just remember, in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snow
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love
In the spring, becomes the rose.

..."love" this song. Didn't know your momma "sings"; that is way-cool.

Our high school band played that song every year for the homecoming ceremony where the queen is presented to the masses. I don't know how relevant the words would have been to the occasion, but the tune was nice.

Yeah my mama "sings." Everybody can "sing," it just depends on how "well" you do it. (I'm beginning to feel like "Chris Farley")

Mike - The tune is beautiful. I put it on a CD and sing it in my car almost everyday b/c I love it so much.
